In 1741–42 Mrs Macklin's new roles were Flareit in Love's Last Shift, Poundage in The Provok'd Husband, the Lady Abbess in The Comedy of Errors, and Mrs Haycock in Miss Lucy in Town; and in 1742–43, the original Mrs Useful in Fielding's scandalous comedy The Wedding Day and Mrs Frail in Love for Love. The experience was dismal for the Macklins, but at least it gave Ann the opportunity to add to her list Berinthia in The Relapse, Dorcas in The Mock Doctor, Mrs Sullen in The Stratagem, and the Queen in Hamlet.
